What a unique and fun tradition Christmas lights have become in our society. Bubble lights first dazzled little children in the late 1930's, and electric christmas light strings were first used on a tree in 1882. These days, entire neighborhoods are decorated in this style, using C7 and C9 bulbs among others, transforming dreary, cold December evenings into colorful winter wonderlands.
Icicle lights are a newer spin on electric Christmas lighting, using miniature bulbs on varying lengths of colored wire to create the illusion of icicles hanging from the awning of the house. If you've never seen this effect, it really is a great lighting effect. Standard mini-bulb sets are used many places, from trees (inside and out), window borders, fencepost wraps, etc. Most of the time, they are either a 50 light string or a 100 light string. Of course, smaller 20 and 35 light varieties are used, as well as ultra-long 300+ light models.
LED christmas lights are the latest advancement in this category, and are becoming quite popular. They emit a much smaller amount of heat, and use much, much less energy than standard holiday light sets. LED sets also last many times longer, which helps to offset the higher up-front cost.
