Fluorescent tubes are excellent energy saving light bulbs. Standard fluorescent bulbs range from short (F4T5, F6T5) to midrange (F40, F32, FO32) to quite long (F96, FO96), and come with three main base styles of 2-pin, single pin, and high output. It is important to use the base that fits your light sockets inside of the fixture. Other types include Circline, Gro-Lux, Curvalume, and T5 Pentron light bulbs.
Compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) is gaining fast on incandescent types because it uses far less energy to produce the same amount of light. Sylvania Dulux, Eiko Solux, and Westinghouse compact fluorescents are the most popular. Most CFL bulbs will screw into a standard light socket, though some Dulux light bulbs have two pin and four pin bases. Those types are often found in industrial lighting fixtures.
Bug zapper light bulbs, blacklight bulbs and germicidal lights are all available, and use fluorescent light bulb technology to accomplish specific, highly-specialized goals.
