The HID light bulb category can be split into three main sections: Metal Halide, Mercury Vapor, and Sodium bulbs.
Metal Halide is the most popular model now, thanks in large part to the color of the light emitted by the bulbs. They are not deep orange or dark yellow, but have a cool white color that is very effective in warehouse, arena, and retail locations. Metal Halide bulbs do not last quite as long as Sodium or Mercury Vapor bulbs, but they do last a lot longer than normal incandescent bulbs.
Parking lots and street lights are mostly High Pressure or Low Pressure Sodium light bulbs, which give off light using only one wave length. This makes them easy to filter out and block. They usually emit a bland orange light and things under this light often look like they are a different color than they really are.
