The advancement of halogen lighting technology has given birth to many different variations within the line.  Because of it's special capsule halogen bulb, it gives off more light and a whiter light which pleased many retailers and homeowners for years.  One of the most popular lamps that have been out on the market for decades has been the 75R40 or 100R40 lamps. They are an incandescent source used in floodlighting situations.  But with the advent of federal energy legislation, that lamp became obsolete for domestic distribution because of its poor energy efficiency.  But people still wanted the same amount of light that they got from that lamp, but not too much overpowering the space, so Sylvania developed the 60PAR38 halogen bulb which gives the same amount of light for 15 watts less. 

For those of you who need match light output from a older R40 lamp, we offer this 60 watt version to replace them.  Though many PAR38 bulbs are similar from different manufacturers, we do believe that this product is superior for its beam patterns and light output.  Sylvania really has a better beam pattern and you can see this in side by side comparisons.  Along with these superior beam aspects, the Sylvania product has a 3000 hour average rated life which is usually more that you get with other manufacturers.  As the original developer of halogen lighting technology, they excel in delivering a quality product for either commercial use or for your home.  Keep in mind that there are wattages all the way up to 250 watts which are extremely bright and aren't usually used for homes because of the high wattage limits on most residential fixtures.

Like all halogen bulbs, the 60PAR38 halogen floods are filled with a special gas that actually rebuilds the filament and provides longer life than normal incandescent bulbs. These halogen bulbs are flood shaped with the heavy, thick glass that is common to many large sized halogen bulbs. PAR stands for parabolic aluminized reflector and this one is just shy of 5 inches in diameter. These types of bulbs will provide you with a high light output, a more white-colored light (a higher color temperature - approximately 3000K), and longer life than normal R or BR reflectors.
