Lighting Library : Other Halogen : Bipin 12 Volt Halogen Light Bulbs From ServiceLighting.com

The expansion of low voltage lighting products has changed the way people look at lighting and how it's designed. There's probably never been a lamp which has found more uses in such a short period of time, because it's one of the most flexible for many uses, and the trend is continuing.  Many fixture manufacturers see the small size and filament structure in a lamp that has the potential for a great amount of control.  Bipin 12 volt halogen light bulbs are really nothing more than the original halogen capsule developed by Sylvania many years ago.  The small size of these bipin lamps makes it possible to use these in fixtures that have some size constraints such as task lighting, display cases and much more.  Many people will use these in cabinet recessed lighting for different types of display.  The bipin lamps are generally identified by their wattage, bulb size and the pin spacing in millimeters.  The pin spacing can be as little as 4mm and as high as 9mm.  The lower spacings like 4mm or 6.35mm are typically a 12 volt variety although the 6.35mm pin spacing is also sometimes a 120 volt lamp.

Halogen bulbs are like incandescent bulbs, like the typical bulbs we have been using in lamps for years and years. Halogen bulbs, however, are filled with a special gas that actually rebuilds the filament and provides longer average life than normal incandescent bulbs. They come in different shapes and sizes for various different uses. The Sylvania or Westinghouse bipin 12 volt halogen light bulbs will provide you with a high light output, a more white-colored light (a higher color temperature - approximately 3000K), and longer life than normal miniature lamps. That is why the halogen are many times used in energy saving lighting situations because they are more efficient in their light production. Sylvania generally calls their halogen line Capsylite and within that category are many different configurations of light bulbs. The variety ranges from standard halogen A19 shape bulbs to bipin halogen light bulbs to the full spectrum variety called Daylight Plus.

The low voltage version of bipin halogen described here are often used in task lighting or under cabinet lights with a round surface mounted shape.  The effect is a high light output in a very small space.  This makes the fixtures less noticeable or more diminutive.  This is what a lot of designers like, a light that literally disappears into the surroundings leaving the illumination effect.  That's what these lamps do for people, giving them ample light while not getting in the way of other design elements in the room.

From your office to finer homes, you will most likely find a Sylvania or Westinghouse bipin 12 volt halogen light bulbs in task and display lighting. We have a large inventory of all types of halogen bulbs for nearly every type of light fixture in the field.  If you need help identifying a bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
