When looking for projection equipment lighting, it makes sense to find what what works and has the correct specifications.  And when it comes to one of the oddest looking bulbs ever made, this one has to take the prize!  It's the CXR / CXL projector lamps.  The needs of multimedia presentation has expanded over the past decade, but there are still ordinary overhead projectors in use on a daily basis, and they use a variety of lamps.  The need for simple audience communication will make these bulbs needed for decades to come.  There are a wide variety projectors which use the CXR / CXL lamp, and they don't all look at all the same.  The main purpose for a bulb like this is the light it puts on a surface, how well it fills out the screen space.  Sometimes these have been used in viewers and slide projectors as well.

All of the CXR / CXL projector lamps regardless of the brand, have the same shape.  The CXR / CXL projector lamps are 50 watts and 8 volt.  The color temperature is 3200K color which is ideal for camera exposure as well.  Something to keep in mind about these lamps is that they have a high light output, that usually means they have a much shorter life.  The life is shorter, about 25 hours, so it's good to turn off the lamp when it's not being used.  These also have a silvered covered top which prevents light from going out the top of the lamp itself.  It has a small reflector which is integral to the lamp itself.  Another thing to remember is when replacing these is that they are identified by a 3 letter code on the bulb itself.  You'll see it somewhere on the back or the top if it's more like a bulb as opposed to a reflector type lamp.  Sometimes you'll see the code as CXR / CXL as described here or ENX, DYS, EVD, ELH or something similar to that.  The ANSI 3 letter code identifies that bulb as to the shape, wattage, voltage and any other standard information.  Unlike other types of bulbs, these have some standards across various manufacturers, the only thing that varies is quality.

In summary, CXR / CXL lamps are used specifically for the overhead projector or viewer they operate in.  Of course, you will need projectors that will have the correct voltage for these projector bulbs.  Whatever type of projection lamp you have, you can get what you need while getting the most light you can for your money.  We have a large inventory of projector bulbs for nearly every type of lighting application in the field.  If you need help identifying a projector bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
