Lighting Library : Pin Based Compact Fluorescents : Dulux L Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

When looking to replace long compact fluorescents in your home or building, the Dulux L from Sylvania are a great choice.  They look the same as their smaller cousin, the Dulux lamp. Those have been used in for years in fluorescent fixtures. The Dulux L compact fluorescent is a high lumen compact which because of its shape can be used in many areas where a lot of light was not possible before. The Sylvania Dulux L has been the choice for lighting applications like cove lighting, light boxes, display or even warehouse lighting. The color rendition on the lamp is very high making it an excellent choice for color sensitive areas. The diameter of the bulb is the T5 and it has four pins in a row at the base of the lamp itself.  There are several different manufacturers of this type of lamp which include Sylvania, GE and Philips.  The GE brand is called Biax, and the Philips is called the PL-L.  We stock the Sylvania brand in all available wattages with the product being referenced being an FT40DL/841/RS or FT36DL/835RS.  With the Philips brand, it's usually PL-L40 or PL-L36.  The wattages vary from 18, 24, 36, 39, 40, 50 and 55 watts.  The first number that you see in the code will designate the wattage of the lamp and the second number denotes the color, it's really that simple to identify this lamp even though it has quite a few variations.

When it comes to lighting up a home or business, compact fluorescent bulbs tend to be the ones chosen more often than other types of bulbs. They are chosen most often because of the great light output and good color along with energy efficiency as well. When compared to incandescent lighting, these are longer lasting, using much less energy making them a perfect choice for almost any type of lighting. There are several kinds of compact types which include the regular household base, some that are plug-in types and some short linear bulbs. As with all fluorescent bulbs, they rely on ballasts inside of the fixtures or units to make them work. The ballast is important because it is specific for each type of lamp. You can't change from one type of fluorescent to another without changing the ballast in most cases. On a rare occasion, there may be a ballast that is made for several different types such as in the case of some Dulux L compact fluorescent lamps.

You can get these in almost any color you want and they are identified by Kelvin temperature.  It's simply a scale to describe the color of a lamp. For example, 3000 Kelvin would be a warm tone color, 5000 Kelvin would be a white color and 6500 Kelvin would be a blue/white color. although there are many choices in color for the Dulux L compact fluorescent, it is most commonly found in the 3500 Kelvin or 4100 Kelvin temperature.  The typical office color is usually the 4100K and so it makes sense that these would match up to what the light color is all around the office.  They also come in various wattages down to 18 watts and up to 55 watts, and of course the lengths are different on each of these wattages.

With the advent of higher electrical costs, many businesses are looking for ways to save energy with lighting. There have been many different types of fixtures developed to accommodate the high lumen Dulux L. With it's longer length, it requires longer space and so you'll see it used in special light fixtures for track lighting, cove lighting and larger high bay warehouse lights.  There are many cases in which the Dulux L fluorescent lamps have been used in high bay and low bay light fixtures in warehouse or manufacturing facilities.  This gives users an instant-on capability which might be important in some production facilities while still reducing energy costs.  Obviously, Sylvania Dulux L compact fluorescent light bulbs are the perfect choice to replace higher wattage incandescent lamps and save energy. You will find a great reduction in your electrical bill while still getting the amount of light that you want. Contact your local electric utility for rebates in your area which might be available for compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Remember that there are many types of Dulux L compact fluorescent light bulbs, we describe some of the most common used in commercial lighting here. Keep in mind that we also stock all the larger or linear types of fluorescent lamps used in commercial lighting. Whatever type you choose or have, you will be saving energy while getting the most light you can for your money. We have a large inventory of fluorescent bulbs for nearly every type of light fixture in the field.  If you need help identifying a bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
