There are some projection lamps that are used more often for stage and studio lighting.  That usually is the case where a high illumination is required and the design of the lamp makes it possible to incorporate it into fixtures with good reflector control.  High light output and light control, that's why many designers have incorporated the EHA projector lamps for many kinds of lighting applications.  There's always need for an adequate amount of light to clearly illuminate a stage or a studio presentation.  There are a wide variety stage equipment lighting which use the EHA lamp, and they don't all look at all the same.  In fact, some companies who make this equipment have switched bulbs from time to time for any number of reasons.  The main purpose for a bulb like this is the light it puts on a stage and to properly deliver the lighted task.  The brightness, as most people call it, needs to be enough to gain contrasts of various types or achieve good general illumination.

All of the EHA projector lamps regardless of the brand, have the same shape and filament structure making them identical for all types of projection equipment.  There are quite a few lamps that have the exact same shape of another lamp which might have a different voltage or wattage, but almost always the base is different.  That's one of the reasons they're not interchangeable.  The EHA projector lamps are 500 watts and 120 volt and have two post connections that are not the same size so it can't be put in wrong.  In regards to the shape, many bulbs have the same shape with a linear tube and a filament array, but that's where the similarity ends.  Another thing to remember, because these have a high light output, that usually means they have a much shorter life, but the EHA has one of the longer hour ratings than most others, a 75 hour average rated life.  These bulbs should not be touched with your skin as the oils can react with the glass.  If they are touched, the life span of the bulb will be greatly reduced and sometimes you might see a bubbling of the glass. In case you ever do touch inward reflector of the lamps, wipe it thoroughly with a soft cloth.  Most people who maintain projection equipment are aware of this and take steps to properly handle the bulb.

Another thing to keep in mind when replacing these is that they are identified by a 3 letter code on the bulb itself.  You'll see it somewhere on the ceramic base if it's more like a bulb as opposed to a reflector type lamp.  Sometimes you'll see the code as EHA as described here or FXL, DYS, EVD, ELH or something similar to that, you get the idea.  The ANSI 3 letter code identifies that bulb as to the shape, wattage, voltage and any other standard information.  Unlike other types of bulbs, these have some standards across various manufacturers, the only thing that varies is quality.  We have two of the best manufacturers of all types which are Sylvania and Eiko.

In summary, EHA projector lamps are used specifically for the stage projectors they operate in.  Whatever type of projection lamp you have, you can get what you need while getting a better quality bulb.  We have a large inventory of projector bulbs for nearly every type of lighting application in the field.  If you need help identifying a stage projection bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
