Lighting Library : Non-Halogen Flood : ER30 Flood Light Bulbs

This lamp used to be one of the most common types of energy saving bulbs that you could get on the market.  It was often used to replace standard R30 floods while still delivering the same amount of light that you may have in the area.  The beam is somewhere between a flood and a spot which made ideal as a replacement for wide area lighting to a directed light, therefore saving energy.  But a lot changed as halogen technology continued to develop, thus the ER30 flood has been widely replaced by a halogen PAR30 instead.  Although many people have replaced these with more efficient sources, there are still many people who use them and like the way it throws light.  They're just some situations where something that's a little bit softer may be required rather than a highly directed beam of light that you'll get from a halogen source.  These come in a couple of different wattages and are the 50 watt and the 75 watt with a beam pattern that is somewhere in between flood and spot.  They have an elongated shape and ER stands for elliptical reflector.  They are 3.75 inches in diameter across the reflector face and so that makes them a natural replacement for BR30 lamps.  As mentioned before, there are many other options to replace these including halogen lamps.  Sometimes that's the way to go if you really want to save more energy and get a crisp white or light.

These flood bulbs are a medium size and can be used in almost any recessed or track lighting fixture that is standard today.  It's not necessarily the best lamp to use in most cases, but the cost is generally very low which makes them popular.  The most common wattage is the 75 watt ER30, sometimes also called the 75ER30 flood light.  They can be used in recessed or track lighting of almost any size.  When compared to regular incandescent lighting, ours are longer lasting than the store bought kind making them a perfect choice for almost any type of lighting. There are several kinds of ER30 flood light bulbs which include the regular household base in 120 volt or 130 volt and some typical codes are 50ER30 and 75ER30.  The 130 volt will last longer because it protects your bulb from power surges and spikes.  So in a home application they should last longer as well as a commercial building where spikes and voltage fluctuations happen much more often.

With the advent of higher electrical costs, many businesses are looking for ways to save energy with lighting.  Obviously, compact fluorescent bulbs are the perfect choice to replace higher wattage incandescent ER30 flood light bulbs and save energy.  Just look for areas where you might use ER30 incandescent light bulbs and find the right replacement on our web site.  You will find a great reduction in your electrical bill while still getting the amount of light that you want.  Keep an eye out for electric utility rebates in your area which might be available for compact fluorescent floods bulbs.  This is more true in commercial lighting than it is for residential as they are a larger user of electricity during the day or high demand times.  Please note that your energy savings can be very significant when changing from incandescent floods to fluorescent flood lights over almost any other kind of retrofit.

Remember that there are several types of ER30 flood bulbs, we describe some of the most common used in home and commercial lighting here.  Keep in mind that we also stock all the larger incandescent  and smaller types used in commercial lighting.  Whatever type you have, you will be getting a longer life incandescent than what you're used to, getting the most light you can for your money.  We have a large inventory of incandescent bulbs for nearly every type of light fixture in the field.  If you need help identifying a bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
