Lighting Library : Other Halogen : KX2000 Light Bulbs from ServiceLighting.com

One of the latest innovations in small high intensity incandescent lighting has been making it's way into bathrooms and task lighting more and more.  It's the krypton xenon type which are often known as KX2000 light bulbs and are made by several different manufacturers, Westinghouse, Bulbrite and Hybec.   All of these have a familiar tubular shape and several bases.  There are many times people have a hard time finding just the one they need in the correct wattage because most local stores don't carry them.  If they do, the price is prohibitive.  These have been used a replacement for halogen bulbs as they can be touched with your hands and they are actually whiter than standard halogen lamps.   There are three different bases that are the most common in the KX2000 light bulbs, they would be minican E11, the candelabra E12 and the double contact or DC base.  The minican base isn't like a regular screw-in base at all, it has very tiny threads which are different enough that nothing else could possibly fit into that socket.  The minican E11 base stands for "minicandelabra" which as you could guess is slightly smaller than a standard candelabra E12 base.  But when you look at these bulbs, there are different bases, finishes and of course, the wattage.  Like all of these bulbs, they are filled with a special krypton gas that burns whiter and brighter than halogen bulbs.  The applications and light fixtures that these have been used in are almost endless and think about using these as a replacement for halogen that should last longer and are easier to handle.

When trying to identify your KX2000 light bulbs, one of the best places to obviously start is at the base of the lamp, the part where it makes it's electrical connection.  As stated before there are several bases and usually on the lamp somewhere will be a code something like KX20, KX40 or KX60, and each one of those numbers pertains to the wattage.  Another option that you have would be whether it is clear or frosted and depending on the lighting situation, one of the other might work better for you.   We have Westinghouse in stock and find that we're getting a good performance out of this brand over any other.  Westinghouse offers high quality manufacturing and have a long life which we see in the day-to-day feedback we get from our customers.  The popular designation would be like the following, KX20CL/E11, KX40CL/E12, KX60CL/DC for the clear and KX20FR/E11, KX40FR/E12, KX60FR/DC are the frosted.  Unlike halogen bulbs, these KX2000 light bulbs can be touched and handled like a regular bulb, nothing special.  The glass doesn't have an special properties which make that an issue.

From bathroom covered lights to task lighting, you will find krypton xenon KX2000 light bulbs used in more and more types of light fixtures.  Because they burn brighter and give a purer, whiter light, they will be a natural choice for many lighting applications.  The compact size of these KX2000 lamps make it possible to put them in almost any small space and produce high illumination.  By clicking the link above, you'll be taken to a page that has one wattage of this lamp type listed, but we have all of them!  If you're having trouble identifying your bulb, please call us and one of our friendly customer service people will help you.
