People often wonder what lamps are used in movie projection equipment, the Osram Sylvania XBO is that lamp used most often.  It's been that way for several decades as the technology keeps improving, so do the lamps provided by Osram Sylvania.  Obviously, it's important to have the proper amount of illumination and there are various wattages available for different kinds of projectors. The technology involved in XBO lighting is similar to HID metal halide lights. An arc is established between two electrodes in a gas-filled tube which causes a special vapor to produce the light you see. Like other kinds of arc tubes, this light does not need a coating of phosphors in order to produce the light and creates a copious amounts of light. These are also used in other areas of application, for example architectural illumination and effects lighting, microscopy and medical optics plus light measurement and solar simulation.  Most people prefer the white color in most lighting situations, therefore the Osram Sylvania XBO short arc projector lamps are the choice for most screen presentations.  The color temperature on these lamps is 6200K color which means it has a very white light which is similar to outdoor daylight.

These lamps have a shape which is linear with a rounder arc tube in the middle.  There are some cautions when handling the lamps during installation.  Osram Sylvania XBO xenon short arc projector lamps may only be held by the base. If the quartz bulb or the shafts should ever be inadvertently touched with bare fingers (which should never happen, because unprotected lamps should only be handled with leather gloves), the fingerprints must be removed immediately. A lint-free cloth moistened with spirit is best for this, after which the lamp should be rubbed dry, taking care not to scratch the quartz glass surface. Damage to the quartz may cause the lamp to break during later operation. If fingerprints are not removed they burn into the quartz glass surface where they act as a seed for ever-expanding recrystallization of the quartz. This causes the quartz to lose its strength and increases the risk of bursting.  All Osram Sylvania XBO xenon short arc lamps are supplied in a safety cover. This protects users from possible spontaneous or induced bursting of the lamp. You should handle lamps only with safety cover. Store this safety cover for use during the removal of the lamp at the end of its service life.
