Lighting Library : Specialty : Safety Coated Light Bulbs

There are times when a light bulb must be more than a source of lighting, but also provides a safety feature for some types of facilities.  That's where these type of bulbs are used.  They provide a coating which will prevent shattering of the bulb and contain any glass if the lamp is broken.  This has been used for decades in facilities that do food handling or any place that bulb fragments would be hazardous.  Of course, there are also places like restaurants which probably use these more than any other type of lighting.  There are also industrial machines that need light but cannot tolerate any types of foreign objects in their processes. Common to almost every type of lighting application has been the standard A19 light bulbs. These are the standard size bulbs which you might be familiar with, the ones you've probably bought for years in hardware stores.  But with this special coating, they are often called safety coated light bulbs.  The "A" shape was one of the first designs and continues to still be the one most people use.

There are several trade names which reference these bulbs, it might be tuff-skin, teflon coated, shatterproof and more.  They're basically the same when it comes to the safety coating on the outside of the bulb itself.  The inside could be different and we use a long life version that gives you the longest lasting bulb while still delivering a safer environment.  Some people work in USDA or facilities where NSF approved products must be used. This is the kind of bulb you will need to meet those requirements.  If you're a restaurant manager or owner, consider using these bulbs as they can save you money in ruined food costs if there is a shattering of the bulb. We have these in the standard size in both 25 and 40 watt, and other smaller sizes in their respective wattages as well.  The A15 is the size of an appliance bulb and they are also available as safety coated light bulbs rather obviously. The smaller size makes them idea for refrigerator use, oven bulbs and many other kinds of applications where food contact is always an issue.  Once again, the wattages are 25 and 40 watt with a standard medium base.  So no matter what size of application you have, these safety light bulbs should meet your demands for a shatter resistant bulb.

If you've decided on ServiceLighting.com, you've made an excellent choice for all kinds of good lighting ideas.  We know all about the lighting applications like restaurants or foodservice, so getting you the right safety coated light bulbs will be easier for you. Remember that there are many types of bulbs, we describe just some of the most common used in home and commercial lighting here.  It seems as though the offering of bulbs continues to grow, and so does the need to have a helpful source to get the right lighting for your home or office.  We understand why these bulbs are important and if you need help identifying a bulb, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
