Sylvania Dulux fluorescent bulbs are becoming very popular for recessed lighting applications in hotel lighting and general business lighting. Clearly, the idea of saving up to 75 percent of the energy costs when compared to a standard incandescent bulb is the major reason for the change. Sylvania compact fluorescent lighting is very reliable and long lasting as well, reducing the number of times businesses or organizations need to take in changing the bulbs. Imagine your next power bill being reduced by 10% or more, based on lighting changes alone--the savings add up very quickly and can be a real advantage in controlling costs for your home or business.
All fluorescent lighting requires a ballast to trigger and maintain the electrical charge that flows through the tube and ultimately creates the visible light. A ballast is a heavy electronic device with special circuit boards and metal wiring that converts the energy from the power company into usable energy capable to be used in fluorescent lighting fixtures. In short, without a ballast, fluorescent light bulbs simply won't work. In the case of Sylvania Dulux bulbs, some bulbs are self-ballasted, meaning the ballast is built right into the design of the bulb. In those cases, the base of the bulb has a standard screw-in base. These bulbs can be used in your ceiling fixtures, table lamps, bathroom lighting strips, basement and garage lighting; virtually anywhere a standard incandescent bulb would be used. The typical examples of this type of Sylvania bulb can be searched for and viewed on our site using the following: CF13EL/MINITWIST, CF15EL, CF20EL, CF23EL, and CF30EL. The term minitwist in any descriptions refer to newer models that are designed to be smaller than older technology and therefore able to fit into more places and fixtures. The base, however, has been and always will be one size--the same size that is used in your normal office or home light fixtures.
The Sylvania Dulux light bulbs that are not self-ballasted are generally referred to as Dulux S, Dulux D, Dulux T, Dulux L, Dulux D/E, Dulux S/E, Dulux T/E, and Dulux F. These bulbs have either two or four pins that plug straight into the light socket. The exact base configuration is required when replacing this type of bulb, since if the pins do not match, they won't slide into the socket and won't be able to make a connection to the ballast. These bulbs are more common in business lighting, even though newer homes are certainly being outfitted with them more and more. The advantage of using pin-based compact fluorescents is that they can be replaced inexpensively. They are small, thin, and easy to store.
In moving from warm, orange-yellow incandescent lighting, you will find a wide variety of colors that the Sylvania Dulux compact fluorescent bulbs are available in. If you enjoy the warm, standard color of light bulbs, the 2700K (27K) and 3000K (30K) bulbs would be a great option. The 3500K (35K) is a blend between warm and cool tones and is a popular choice for general lighting. If whiter colored light is what you are looking for, the cool white 4100K (41K) is an option, and is the single most common type of Sylvania fluorescent bulb ordered. Even beyond that, there is the pure white 5000K (50K), often called full spectrum, which contains little or no yellow or orange tones at all. On all models, the color rendering index of approximately 80 CRI is quite good, albeit not quite as high as incandescent bulbs.
