Sylvania PAR38 Daylight light bulbs are a new kind of halogen light bulb that gives off a full spectrum daylight color.  They have a special filter which blocks out some of the yellows which prevent a true daylight color.  Full spectrum lighting has been a constant need for many types of industries which need to be able to differentiate colors, and most of the time those were in the fluorescent type of bulb. The term full spectrum is most often used when referring to fluorescents that simulate natural outdoor light. The halogen light is still most like an incandescent, but has the warmer tones filtered out. However, the term full spectrum is primarily used when referring to those lamps that fall into the white to blue/white color temperature range. Color temperature is measured by a term called kelvin. 3000 kelvin would be a warm tone color, 5000 kelvin would be a white color and 6500 kelvin would be a blue/white color.

The Sylvania PAR38 Daylight bulbs are the same physical size as regular PAR38 bulbs that you may be used to in many types of outdoor light fixtures. You can tell what kind of PAR38 lamp you have by measuring the distance across the widest point of the bulb. The number after 'PAR' represents the number of eighths of an inch the bulb diameter is. Therefore, PAR38 lamps are almost 5 inches across and come in 50 and 75 watts in the Daylight version. PAR38 lamps are widely available from Sylvania and will work in the same space as standard PAR38 lamps. They have standard bases and are able to be used indoors or outdoors. This means they can be directly exposed to rain or snow and still function normally and they do not need to be covered by a light fixture. This makes the PAR38 lamps very versatile and quite handy to use.

Sylvania generally calls their line Daylight and within that category are many different configurations of light bulbs. Most of their Daylight incandescent light bulbs use a blue phosphor coating. The variety ranges from standard light bulbs to halogen called Daylight Plus. There are also Daylight appliance bulbs, indoor floods and indoor/outdoor PAR floods. The Sylvania PAR38 Daylight floods use neodymium in the glass. Sylvania also carries a 50/150 Daylight 3way for those people who have a special fixture used for reading or variation of light output.
