Sylvania PAR38 halogen light bulbs are a standard for many outdoor fixtures using halogen floods today including those you might use on your home. They put a halogen capsule light in a small reflector to give a great amount of light output while delivering good beam control. The Sylvania has one of the widest varieties of PAR38 lamps including many wattages and all beam spreads not typically found in most hardware superstores. As a part of our complete Sylvania offering, we have all the variations they have. PAR38 bulbs have a short neck with a large reflector, just above the Edison (medium) base. Though many PAR38 bulbs are similar from different manufacturers, we do believe that the Sylvania product is superior for its beam patterns and light output. The brands you buy in the hardware store are similar, but they usually don't last as long. It has a full beam of light without the shadows or irregularities that some manufacturers of cheap PAR38 light bulbs might have. As the developer of halogen lighting technology, they excel in delivering a quality product for either commercial use or for your home.

Halogen bulbs are incandescent bulbs, just like the typical R40 flood bulbs we have been using in lamps for years and years. Halogen bulbs, however, are filled with a special gas that actually rebuilds the filament and provides longer average life spans than normal incandescent bulbs. They come in different shapes and sizes for various different uses. The Sylvania PAR38 halogen light bulbs are flood shaped with the heavy, thick glass that is common to many medium to large sized halogen bulbs. PAR stands for parabolic aluminized reflector. These types of bulbs will provide you with a high light output, a more white-colored light (a higher color temperature - approximately 3000K), and longer life than normal R or BR reflectors. That is why the halogen are many times used in energy saving lighting situations because they are more efficient in their light production. The PAR38 is a good direct replacement for the incandescent R40 lamps that have been used in outdoor lighting or track and recessed cans over the past decades. Replacing these will give you more light while reducing energy costs. The typical wattage of the old R40 is 150 watts, and so replacing them with a 90 watt PAR38 will save 60 watts and deliver better lighting at the same time. The amount of light is critical when they're used as an outdoor security light.

The Sylvania PAR38 halogen is a large sized flood bulb with a standard screw base. You can tell what kind of PAR lamp you have by measuring the distance across the widest point of the bulb. The number after 'PAR' represents the number of eighths of an inch the bulb diameter is. Therefore, PAR38 lamps are 4 3/4 inches across. PAR38 lamps are widely available from Sylvania, Westinghouse as well as others. They have standard bases and are able to be used indoors or outdoors. This means they can be directly exposed to rain or snow and still function normally and they do not need to be covered by a light fixture. This makes the PAR38 lamps very versatile and quite handy to use many kinds of outdoor light fixtures.

Sylvania generally calls their halogen line Capsylite and within that category are many different configurations of light bulbs. The variety ranges from standard halogen light bulbs to bi-pin halogen to the full spectrum variety called Daylight Plus. There are also track lighting bulbs, indoor floods and indoor/outdoor PAR floods. Whatever the lighting need, there probably is a Sylvania lamp that will work correctly in that situation. ServiceLighting.com is an online light bulb company that offers the entire Sylvania catalog for purchase over the web. So whether you need halogen, fluorescent or HID sources, we'll have the right bulb for your need. In this case, we have the breadth of the entire offering of Sylvania PAR38 halogen light bulbs.

Here's a helpful tip about lighting an outdoor space or area with these lamps. If you're looking to maximize light in an area for security reasons, then choose the widest beam possible in these lamps. The reason for this is that the PAR shape tends to tighten the beam of light illuminating one part of the spread greatly, while the other part is a little dimmer. If you use the widest beam that you can get it will even out the light over the entire area rather than concentrating it in small spots. And because a light doesn't have to be very bright to illuminate at night, the evenness of the light will make it all appear brighter than and incorrectly lit area where spotting occurs. If you need a special beam spread, then you can also count on us having the best selection of patterns to meet your critical lighting demands.

From security lighting of homes to track lighting in retail stores, you will most likely find a Sylvania PAR38 halogen lighting your way. Many people also use these halogen PAR38 bulbs for retail track, restaurants, clothing stores, jewelry, art work, sculptures, etc. and when shown under this light will appear more brilliant. In the case of retail lighting, the way you light something can make the difference in selling something or not. Whatever type of lighting need you have, you will be saving energy while getting the most light you can for your money. We have a large inventory of halogen bulbs for nearly every type of light fixture in the field. If you need help identifying the bulb you have, our customer service representatives can help you determine what you have.
