As with all HID bulbs, they rely on ballasts that are in the fixtures to make them work. Universal ballasts for our standard high pressure sodium lamps are one of the most popular brands in the industry with a history of reliable service that stretches back a couple of decades.  We stock them in a multi-tap voltage configuration which means you can use them on 120, 208 or 277 volt circuits.  We have 480 volt high pressure sodium ballasts but those are almost always a dedicated voltage.  In either case, we make it easier for you by providing the correct one, without having to keep individual voltages on the shelf. The range of the product line includes operation for 35 watt all the way up to 1000 watt high pressure sodium which are used in conjunction with many types of high mast lighting and roadway applications.  All of them have a capacitor as part of the kit which provides a high voltage for a moment, in order to start the arc.  If you're lamp has quit operating and you know it's not the bulb, then you must assume that the ballast or the capacitor needs to be changed.  It's a maintenance issue for building managers of warehouse, industrial, roadway and security lighting.  We have all the available ballasts for all wattages in stock.
