.When it comes to movie theaters and movie projection, the Osram Sylvania XBO is that lamp used most often.  It's been that way for several decades as the technology keeps improving, so do the lamps provided by Osram Sylvania.  Obviously, it's important to have ample light for a movie screen and there are many different wattages available for different kinds of theaters. The technology involved in XBO lighting is similar to fluorescent lighting. An arc is established between two electrodes in a gas-filled tube which causes a special vapor to produce the light you see. Unlike fluorescent bulbs, this light does not need a coating of phosphors in order to produce the light, the light comes from the arc itself and creates a tremendous amount of light. In the broader category of HID lighting, these are the ones you see with the bright, white color in movie theaters, stage lighting or sometimes in the studio as well.  But these are also fused in other areas of application, for example architectural illumination and effects lighting, microscopy and medical optics plus light measurement and solar simulation.  Most people prefer the white color in most lighting situations, therefore the Osram Sylvania XBO xenon is the choice for most screen presentations.  The color temperature on these lamps is 6200K color. 

These lamps are an unusual shape and have many different choices of wattages and voltages.  The shape is linear with a rounder arc tube in the middle.  There are some cautions when handling the lamps during installation.  XBO xenon short arc projector lamps may only be held by the base. If the quartz bulb or the shafts should ever be inadvertently touched with bare fingers (which should never happen, because unprotected lamps should only be handled with leather gloves), the fingerprints must be removed immediately. A lint-free cloth moistened with spirit is best for this, after which the lamp should be rubbed dry, taking care not to scratch the quartz glass surface. Damage to the quartz may cause the lamp to break during later operation. If fingerprints are not removed they burn into the quartz glass surface where they act as a seed for ever-expanding recrystallization of the quartz. This causes the quartz to lose its strength and increases the risk of bursting.  All XBO xenon short arc lamps are supplied in a safety cover. This protects users from possible spontaneous or induced bursting of the lamp. You should handle lamps only with safety cover. Store this safety cover for use during the removal of the lamp at the end of its service life. If you take these precautions, you should find trouble-free service until the lamp goes out.
